Parks for Outings Around OMS

Warm weather is here, and all the fun spring and summer activities surrounding the One Manhattan Square condos on the Lower East Side beckon. Here, you’re at the center of some of Downtown’s best parks and green spaces, where you’ll find grassy spots for picnics, playgrounds, and even places for your pooch to enjoy the great outdoors.

Let’s take a look at some of Downtown’s most family-friendly parks.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors at Home

When you live in the luxury apartments of One Manhattan Square, you have access to New York City’s most extensive private garden. At 45,000 square feet, it’s the ideal area to gather with friends and family, including meandering pathways, curated gardens, and places to gather. Imagine hosting a Fourth of July party at one of the outdoor grilling areas or just having a few friends over for a bottle of wine around the firepit. The best part of it all is that it’s just steps from your door.

Plan a Picnic

If you’d like to go a little further afield from One Manhattan Square, grab a picnic blanket and a portable speaker and head to the East River Greenway. This stretch of land is where you can soak up the sun as you relax right on the water. A place for riparian delights like running, biking, and lounging, it’s also an ideal area to spend a long afternoon. But before you visit, don’t forget to stock up on snackable supplies and snacks from one of the Lower East Side’s famous delis and gourmet shops.

Sweat It Out Outside

Get a workout in as you enjoy some alfresco sports. Between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, Murry Bergtraum Softball Field is where locals and city recreational teams like to play a few games of ball on the weekend amid some pretty incredible views. If you happen to be a skateboarder that’s tired of sidewalk surfing, never fear. There’s the nearby Coleman Playground Skatepark with lots of pyramids and rails on which to grind for skaters of all levels. Even your dog can burn off some energy at the Coleman Oval Dog Run.

Get Out There and Play (and Learn)

The Lower East Side is filled with family-friendly museums and restaurants, but there’s also a plethora of playground options. For a lovely day of swinging and sliding, take the young ones to Martin F. Tanahey Playground. Operating as an oasis for children since the early 1950s, this historic playground has all the accouterments kids need, including water spray areas where they can cool off in the sizzling NYC summer. At Alfred E. Smith Recreation Center, you’ll find even more opportunities for enriching activities, from sports to educational programming.
