West 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture has created a lush green oasis in the middle of Manhattan for residents of the Lower East Side condos at One Manhattan Square. Combining a sumac meander, tea garden, birch garden, topiaries, a stargazing observatory, herb garden, and outdoor dining space, among other features, the spacious gardens contrast nicely with the gleaming 800-foot tower rising above. “We have crafted a fine balance between verdant evergreen and exciting seasonal planting,” says West 8 director Adriaan Geuze of the building’s green space. “These create specific moments of animation throughout the year.”
