The New Colossus Festival descends on New York’s Lower East Side neighborhood from March 6 through 10. Now in its sixth year, this highly curated multiple-venue event has established itself as the premiere stateside showcase for a dazzling array of daring, innovative new music. The New Colossus Festival takes its name from Emma Lazarus’ iconic 1883 poem “The New Colossus,” displayed inside the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. Much like America welcomed waves of immigrants in search of better futures, the festival opens its doors to these engaging new international artists, offering inspired programming for intrepid music lovers.
Held at a collection of the Lower East Side’s most legendary live music venues, including Arlene’s Grocery — which has launched the likes of Lady Gaga and The Strokes — Berlin, and the Mercury Lounge, the festival offers a rare opportunity to catch these acts in close quarters as they stop in NYC on their way to Austin’s renowned SXSW festival. Attendees can expect to discover fresh sonic delights from far-flung locales like Singapore, Italy, and New Zealand, alongside the cream of the North American underground crop.
Among the not-to-be-missed performers in 2024’s lineup are the U.K.’s energetic Arctic Monkeys-indebted rockers Cucamaras, Singaporean dream pop purveyors Subsonic Eye, and New York’s own lo-fi indie duo Phantom Handshakes. The festival will also play host to its signature Ditto X: NYC24 conference, which brings together influential music industry professionals, media, and tastemakers for a series of panels, workshops, and networking events.
